STAFF PARK AND RECREATION SPECIALIST – NORTH COAST REDWOODS DISTRICT / DISTRICTWIDE SERVICES / FORT HUMBOLDT STATE HISTORIC PARK
The reporting location for this position will be the North Coast Redwoods District office located at 3431 Fort Avenue, Eureka, CA 95503 at Fort Humboldt State Historic Park. This position works under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor.
The Staff Park and Recreation Specialist supervises vegetation management staff and oversees the North Coast Redwood District Botany Program. The position reports to the District Office, located at Fort Humboldt Historic State Park in Humboldt County. The position will work independently and collaboratively to supervise, plan, develop, and administer a portion of the District's Vegetation Management Program, with an emphasis on native and exotic plant management in state park units located in northern Mendicino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties. Specific duties include planning and administering vegetation restoration/management projects. The position will perform the more difficult, sensitive, and complex professional duties in connection with vegetation management, protection, and planning. The Staff Park and Recreation Specialist will supervise botanical staff performing natural resources management and will be required to work cooperatively with a wide variety of disciplines both within and outside of the North Coast Redwoods District.
Training and Development Assignments may be considered.
Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with extended computer use, reviewing data and preparing program materials. The position also requires periodic field visits in varied terrain and weather, with potential exposure to poison oak, insects, dust, and herbicide treatments.
